Kicking off with a plugin that’s old, but gold. Versilian Studios Chamber Orchestra 2 has been getting bigger and better for years. Some of the sounds are a bit flat but there are also some standouts.

ProjectSAM’s Free Orchestra borrows some unusual patches from their selection of orchestral libraries. You’ll need the free Kontakt Player to run them, so head to Native Instruments to pick that up.

And whilst you’re visiting Native, make sure to grab Komplete Start which contains over 2000 sounds for synths, sample players and more. There are also some bonus loops and one-shots.

The completely free Layers from Orchestral Tools, contains a huge 17GB of content. The brass, strings and woodwinds are from their full libraries and run in their own free player.

At number 1, Spitfire’s offerings which include a free version of their BBC Symphony Orchestra and the inspirational LABS series. These all run in Spitfire’s own plugin and you shouldn’t hesitate to pick them up.
