TOP 5: WAYS TO STAY FOCUSSED ON WRITING MUSIC

As a musician with demanding clients, family and friends, it’s all too easy to get distracted from the task in hand. Here are 5 ways to get back on track…

5 Use “Do not disturb” apps to set yourself times when you shouldn’t be looking at the internet or doing other time wasting activities. Or just turn off your router. You might be surprised how much more you get done.

4 Set clear boundaries between work and play time. Otherwise the temptation to answer just one more call can be too much.

3 If what you’re writing is more of a chore than a pleasure then switch projects for a short while, or work on something just for fun. The break will do you good and could inspire useful ideas further down the line.

2 Listen to your body clock. Figuring out the right time of day to tackle different  tasks works across many disciplines and for musicians it’s no different. Make sure you’re writing music at the time when you’ll be the most productive.

1 Take care of your health. The right diet and a good night's sleep can significantly increase your concentration and ability to focus. So make sure that you’re looking after number one.
